Welcome to IITA GRC website
Imagine…
the alarming rate of genetic erosion due to increasing climatic and environmental changes on global food security
Fact…
A good quality plant genetic resource is core for sustainable agriculture and global food security.
How best can we prevent genetic erosion and conserve our rich cultural heritage of cassava germplasm?
IITA Genetic Resources Center (GRC) is one of the active CGIAR centers which conserve a wide spectrum of cassava germplasm ranging from wild relatives to improved varieties.
High throughput research…
IITA genebank conducts high throughput research and use advance technology in collecting, cleaning (phytosanitation), conserving, rapidly multiplying and distributing cassava germplasm.
From research to delivery…
- IITA Genebank ensures adequate provision and delivery of clean (virus free) cassava germplasm to requesters across the globe.
- We work closely with germplasm health, breeders and other scientists in ensuring adequate phytosanitation and crop improvement
- We have the capacity to conserve cassava genetic materials for short and long term purpose.
Capacity development…
- IITA Genetic Resources Center (GRC) collaborates with NARS, breeders and other scientists in ensuring sustainable agriculture. Hence, working together in achieving global food security.
The field bank of the Genetic Resources Center is located at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, IITA Headquarters in Ibadan.
